If you don’t face the cause in a positive way, then in 20- 30 days, you can go into Depression.

But in this Post we are not Going to talk about the causes of Depression, but I will talk about all the Types of Depression.

Before that Let me tell you about all the symptoms of Depression so that I don’t need to repeat it in each type separately. Some types have Symptoms Specific to them, I will talk about them in their respective Type.

MAJOR DEPRESSION

This is the most common type of Depression, also known as Clinical Depression.

If person doesn’t face the Cause of Depression, when it comes into his/her life, then after some days, this person will go into Minor Depression.

If remain unchecked, it will convert into Moderate Depression and Then after some time into a Major Depression.

Time Depression takes to convert from Minor into Major One, varies from person to person. It can take 10 days, it can also take 2 months. It all Depends, there is no definate time but Average time is close to 24 days.

In this type of Depression person feels Sad, Exhausted, Worthless, Hopeless, Irritated, and Angry.

Person Sleeping and Eating Habits Change. Either person sleep less or more. In the same way, person will either Eat more or less.

Your Confidence crash and You could also feel suicidal.

This type of Depression can be Defeated By Talk Therapy(Also known as psychotherapy) and/or Medication.

SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER

As Name implied, this is a type of Depression which takes place in a particular Season.

Generally it begins in Winters and Ends in Spring but there can be other seasons(very rare) in which it can come into your life.

The reason this type of depression comes into your life is lack of Light.

Some people’s body and mind are more sensitive to light than others. So, when during winters, these people spend more time in darkness or in low- light. These people can go into SAD.

How to Find out whether My Mood is Light sensitive or not?

During winters, when there is less light, if you are experiencing Negative Feelings such as sadness, hopelessness, irritation, low concentration, and anger for no Apparent Reason then there is a very high probability that your mood is linked with Light.

So What To Do?

People affected by this Type of depression should spend more time in sunlight and should allow natural light into their rooms. During Night time keep on the Artificial lights of your room. Also, you can buy a light box to help you with this kind of depression.

Light therapy( involves daily sessions sitting close to an intense light source ) is Very Effective to get out of SAD.

Most of the times, you can defeat SAD by light therapy only but if you still feel that you need more options, you can also add Talk Therapy session in addition to Light Therapy.

SITUATIONAL DEPRESSION

This type of Depression occurs when you encounter a situation such as loss of a love one, Breakup, Business Downfall, Unemployment, Loss in Business, Physical Health Problem, Divorce, and Abuse and you don’t face and solve that situation or problem in a positive way.

That is the Simplest way I can Put it.

Situational Depression occurs when you don’t face changes in your life in a Positive way.

Symptoms of this type of Depression are the same as I mentioned above.

To Fight this type of Depression, Talk Therapy sessions are the Best along with medication if required.

ATYPICAL DEPRESSION

This type is Atypical because a person facing this Type of Depression feels Positive or Happy when Something Positive/ motivatinal Happend in his/her life.

It is just like a Major Depression, only difference is that you would feel positive when something positive happens around you or when you consume some kind of positive content.

When positive event finish, you again goes into negative state of mind.

It has some prominent symptoms which include Heaviness in arms and legs, overeating, oversleeping, irritability and extra sensitivity to interpersonal rejection and Criticism.

Why It is Called Atypical?

One of the most powerful powers of Depression is Negative Thinking. A person in Depression can develop a Negative outlook towards everything.

Positive talk, environment or Content will not make him/her positive unless he/she gets out of the Negative Feedback loops that depression has created in his/her mind but a person facing Atypical depression has an advantage here, He feels good if something positive happens around him.

So, it is easier to get out of it as compared to other types but that doesn’t mean that it would be that Easy. You still have to take some hard actions to defeat Atypical Depression.

Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder

This type of Depression Occurs in Children aged 6- 18. Yeah! Even Childrens are not immune to depression.

This is also a kind of Major depression but as it occurs in Children’s, It has some Prominent symptoms: persistent irritability, anger, not going to School, Sleeping Problems, showing resistance, and frequent episodes of out-of-control behavior.

Prominent Causes of This type of Depression are Failure in Exam, Bullying, Humiliation, Breakup, Expectations, Negative/ Fake Friends, Constant pressure from parents/ School of Performing Well, and Peer Pressure.

To Fight this type of Depression, Talk Therapy along with Support from Parents is The Best.

PSYCHOSIS DEPRESSION

Now, you are not a Psycho when you face this type of depression. Only thing different in this depression is that you would face delusions.

You could Hallucinate and Could also hear false sounds. One can also feel Catatonic i.e Unable to Speak or move for a small period of time.

So, this is a kind of a powerful Depression as it also makes your body an mind Dis-organised and Disoriented.

To defeat this type of Depression, Talk Therapy, Anti- Psychotic Medications and/ or anti-depressants are the Best option.

BIPOLAR DISORDER

Also Known as Manic Depression

This type exist in Duality means you would not only face depression but also a kind of Mania.

You would feel sadness, hopelessness, fatigue, irritation, etc for some time lets say 10 days and you would feel Energetic, excited, Full of Confidence or I would say overconfidence for some days.

When in Mania, you could feel high self-esteem, decreased need for sleep, thoughts and activity at higher speed, and increase in sex needs. You Could indulge in overspending, and your risk taking ability will also Increase.

Depressive and Manic Episodes Happen in Cycles but sometimes you can even feel both. When Depression Goes, Mania Comes and when Mania Exit, Depression Enters.

To defeat Bipolar, Talk Therapy, Mood Stabilizers and/ or anti-depressants are your Best Bet.

Types of Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar I Disorder— In this Type, manic episodes last for at least 7 days and depressive episodes last for at least 2 weeks.

Bipolar II Disorder— Defined by a pattern of depressive episodes and manic episodes, but less severe than Bipolar 1.

Cyclothymic Disorder (also called cyclothymia)— Defined by numerous periods of hypomanic symptoms as well as numerous periods of depressive symptoms lasting for at least 2 years (1 year in children and adolescents). However, the symptoms do not meet the diagnostic requirements for a hypomanic episode and a depressive episode.[2]

Other Specified and Unspecified Bipolar and Related Disorders— Defined by bipolar disorder symptoms that do not match the three categories listed above.

POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION

Also Known as Perinatal Depression and it much more serious than the “baby blues” (relatively mild depressive and anxiety symptoms that typically clear within two weeks after delivery)

Causes of this type of depression are Birth of a Child, News that you are pregnant, and worries such as “Can I Take care of My Child or not?.

Hormonal changes also play a prominent role in this Type.

It can Happen to any parent of the child with women being more susceptible.

It can onset before the birth of the child or after the Birth.

Postpartum depression affects up to one in seven women who give birth and can have devastating effects on the women, their infants, and their families.[1]

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)

This type of depression is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome, or PMS

This type is Specific to Women. It Affects Women during the second type of their Menstrual Cycle.

Hormonal Factors also play an Prominent Role in this Type OF Depression.

It can also goes severe if remain unchecked, like any other type of Depression.
